MAdoorS Lead doors are constructed with a lead-lined inner core that is sandwiched between two layers of metal. The lead-lined core provides the door with its radiation shielding properties. While lead doors can be made with materials, such as aluminum, steel is often used for the outer layers of the door, as it is robust and has a high resistance to impact.
MAdoorS Lead lined metal doors can be either solid or hollow. Hollow metal doors are the most common type of lead door, as they are more durable and offer better protection against forced entry, everyday wear and tear. Lead lined hollow metal doors are an important part of any radiation safety plan. When combined with other radiation safety measures, such as lead lined walls and lead lined windows, they provide a comprehensive solution for protecting people and equipment from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation.
Lead lined steel metal doors assemble, install, and look like standard steel metal doors but with the added benefit of radiation protection. The exterior of lead lined steel metal doors come in cold rolled steel in a range of gauges. Reinforced hinging and hardware support the door’s additional weight.
The pure lead sheeting spans the entire height of the door and extends to the edges for effective shielding. Lead thickness determines the shielding level, which is determined based on the door’s proximity to the radiation-producing equipment. A licensed medical physicist can help you calculate the lead thickness required for your application.
